Raising the Bar for Refurbished Tech in the UK With Dual BSI Kitemark™ Certification

We have just become the first VAR & IT Recycling facility in the UK with 100% UK operations to achieve BSI Kitemarks for our refurbished and remanufactured laptops, desktops, and other tech.

Have you ever wondered whether refurbished tech is really as good as buying new?

Well, good news! We have just become the first VAR & IT Recycling facility in the UK with 100% UK operations to achieve BSI Kitemarks for our refurbished and remanufactured laptops, desktops, and other tech.

Why this matters for everyday tech users

Buying refurbished is already a smart way to save money, but these Kitemarks give extra reassurance. The BSI (British Standards Institution) Kitemark isn’t just a logo, it’s an independent certification that proves a product has been rigorously tested for safety, performance, and quality.

In simple terms: A remanufactured laptop with a BSI Kitemark should work just as reliably as a new one.

This helps close the gap between “brand new” and “pre loved,” making it easier for businesses, consumers, students and families switch to more sustainable tech options.

What we’re certified for:

  • BSI Kitemark for Remanufacturing of Computing Hardware - This proves our remanufactured devices meet strict standards and perform like new.
  • BSI Kitemark for Refurbishment of Computing Hardware - This shows that our refurbished devices aren’t just cleaned and resold, they’re carefully restored, upgraded, and quality checked.

So, whether you’re buying for workplace, school, institution or home, you know you’re getting something reliable.

Better for your wallet and the planet

We handle the entire process in the UK, from collecting unwanted devices, to restoring them, to sending them back out looking and performing like new, processing roughly 36,000 devices every month at our HQ in Stafford.

Making our devices ‘like-new’

To meet BSI’s strict standards, we have invested in:

  • UV laser keyboard reprinting (so keys look brand new)
  • Vinyl and casing restoration
  • Battery replacements
  • Internal component upgrades
  • Stronger warranties and fast repair turnarounds

We also recycle any parts we can’t reuse through ethical channels, so nothing goes to waste.

What the experts say

Shahm Barhom, Managing Director, Product Certification, BSI said “Achieving both the BSI Kitemark for Remanufacturing and Refurbishment of Computing Hardware is a notable achievement that highlights Converge Technology Solutions’ commitment to quality and sustainability. As the first UK VAR and IT recycling facility with fully UK-based operations to hold both Kitemark certifications, Converge is setting a strong benchmark for the sector and providing public sector buyers with confidence in refurbished and remanufactured products.”

Alex Cavanagh, Commercial Manager – IT Recycling at Converge Technology Solutions said: “The remanufacture standard pushes you to deliver a product as good as new. The BSI Kitemark is a household name, it provides trust in what we do. BSI made a complex process simple. Clear timelines, black and white standards, and approachable auditors kept us on track.”
